【Mist Forest, Sacred Remains Core Forbidden Zone, Withered Tree Altar.】
The Holy Grail traced a cold, dark-golden arc through the air.
It broke free from the withered tree's branches, from the center of that chaotic law, and flew straight toward Grand Inquisitor Odrich.
In the instant that dark-golden streak cut through the gray mist, the colossal, distorted angel at the altar's center met its end. There was no earth-shattering explosion, only a chilling "dissolution." Leveraging the law-stirring detonation of the Burial-Year Sacrificer, the remnants of the Inquisitor within the angel's body, with a will of utter desperation, fought tooth and nail against the ancient corruption.
In the shadows, Victor "saw" that shell, with its six pale tentacles, collapse inward like a sandcastle drained of its foundation in a thousandth of a second, turning into a pool of foul-smelling black mud. It was then silently erased by the rules at the bottom of the sacred remains, not even a single drop of blood left behind.
That was the swan song of a martyr.
But on this altar, no one would mourn an ancient hero.
"Thud!"
A sound so dull it seemed to crack the very marrow of the earth. Odrich didn't stand to catch the Holy Grail. The Grand Inquisitor's battle instinct, etched into his very bones, made him drop to one knee heavily on the bronze flagstones as the Grail approached, his left hand gripping the ground to stabilize his stance. His right hand opened in the air, like a precise iron clamp, and seized the dark-golden chalice!
In the absolute moment of contact between skin and the Grail.
Through the demon's micro-perception, Victor clearly "heard" a stifled, agonized grunt escape Odrich's throat.
That was no ordinary physical weight of a vessel.
Victor could sense that within that small Grail, it was as if a collapsing dead star had been crammed. It wasn't filled with liquid, but with the collective lament of countless souls drawn to the Grail over millennia, ultimately becoming nourishment for the sacred remains.
It was an extreme, high-dimensional "Desire and Despair." This spiritual contamination, like molten iron, surged back through Odrich's palm and into his veins. The surface of the Grand Inquisitor's right arm, which held the Grail, instantly erupted in large patches of deathly gray petrification. Beneath those patches, even fine, wriggling flesh buds could be seen, struggling to break through the skin.
But Odrich never let go. He frantically channeled his demigod essence into his right arm, forcibly suppressing the bodily distortion.
"Boom!!!"
There was no half-second of respite. The moment the Grail changed hands, the fragile temporary alliance melted away like snow under the sun. Three high-dimensional laws, radiating absolute killing intent, poured down from three directions toward Odrich's head!
"Stay here, along with your doctrine!"
Elba's voice had completely lost its noble elegance, turning into a sticky, guttural roar. He no longer maintained his human form. The boiling sea of blood churned wildly in midair, and from its deepest point, a massive cross of flesh, pieced together from pale spinal columns, slowly rose—
[The Ancestor's Spine Blood Cross].
That was not a weapon being summoned. It was the remains of some ancient ancestor, awakened by Elba's bloodline, rising from the abyss of its own accord.
His bloodline burned wildly, and the right half of Elba's body visibly shriveled at a rapid pace—this was the heavy price of awakening a quasi-Level 0 sealed object.
The moment the Blood Cross fully manifested, the air around Odrich was instantly drained of moisture. The essence blood within the Grand Inquisitor began to uncontrollably seep through his pores, turning into wisps of blood mist, drifting toward the Blood Cross.
Just as Odrich's essence blood was about to leave his body.
A figure, old but resolute, suddenly stepped in from Odrich's right rear.
It was the Hermit, Ignatius.
This veteran demigod of the Church, the moment the Blood Cross descended, had perceived the terror of this sealed object.
He had perused the secret war archives between the Church and the Royal Court spanning several epochs, and understood its bizarre nature—it wasn't a common physical attack, but a deprivation of flesh and blood essence from a high-dimensional conceptual level, forcibly draining all the essence blood and life force from around Odrich.
Once completely locked onto by this law, in moments, the Grand Inquisitor would have his life force scattered, becoming a dry, dead husk.
Ignatius didn't hesitate. He held the staff, symbol of the Church's highest hermitic authority, horizontally before him. At its tip, a crystal ground from the bones of a pioneer saint suddenly burst forth with a pure, pristine golden-white light, wrapped in the aura of an ancient covenant.
That light didn't attack anyone. It simply and quietly enveloped the essence blood of Odrich that was about to drift toward the Blood Cross.
The next moment, those suspended essence blood suddenly solidified.
After a momentary pause in the air, they were pulled by an invisible force, abruptly changing direction, and surged entirely toward Ignatius.
The body, once as steady as a mountain, trembled violently in that instant. Something seemed to writhe madly beneath his skin, veins bulging, as if something not belonging to him was being forcibly infused. The golden-white light around him began to dim, replaced by a strange, spreading pattern of gray-black lines.
"Cough..."
Ignatius knelt on one knee, a line of black, tainted blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
But he smiled. It was the kind of smile belonging to an old-school Church martyr, one of calm and cruel acceptance. His gaze crossed the rolling blood mist, and for a brief moment, met Odrich's, who was also kneeling at the altar's center.
"Odrich."
The old man's aged voice boomed over the altar, carrying an undeniable authority: "Do it. Let them see what the doctrine of Dawn truly is."
In that instant, hearing those words, the pupils of Odrich's pain-twisted face constricted sharply.
He didn't thank him, nor did he hesitate. Between the Church's highest combatants, such hollow formalities were never needed.
"Ignatius, your will shall be remembered by Dawn." Odrich's voice was hoarse, like sandpaper scraping.
"Praise the Lord." The old man braced himself on one knee, his staff firmly planted on the bronze flagstone. His body trembled violently from the searing pain, but his back remained straight as a rod.
At the same time.
The bloodline of the Sea Demon, Cthulhu, was boiling. Something beneath his deep-blue scale robe writhed and struggled. Moments later, a semi-transparent, faintly pulsating black-brown flesh sac "squeezed" out from the gap in the scales on his chest—[Level 1 Sealed Object: The Lung of the Drowned God].
The moment the flesh sac expanded, the spatial constants within a hundred meters of Odrich were forcibly altered. The air instantly turned into the density of a deep-sea dead zone, the terrifying pressure of a ten-thousand-meter abyss crashing down. The bronze flagstones let out a miserable "crack" under the pressure, Odrich's spine bent sharply downward, and his bones emitted an unbearable snapping sound.
To the south, the space around the leader of the Secret Society's Mirror Masters began to warp violently. His right hand plunged into the void, as if pulling a petrified eyeball with a polygonal pupil from some indescribable dimension—[Level 1 Sealed Object: The Mobius Eye].
That eyeball floated in his palm, aimed at the Holy Grail in Odrich's hand. There was no energy attack, no law conflict, only a bizarre "replacement" taking place. The Holy Grail in Odrich's hand began to appear semi-transparent, as it was being forcibly stripped of its physical coordinates.
Facing the full-force killing moves of two demigods, plus the Blood Cross above that Ignatius was forcibly bearing, Odrich's eyelids burst from the extreme load, blood streaming down his cheeks.
Hundreds of black iron-like [Holy Thorns] erupted from the ground, forming a spherical cage that shielded him at the center. The thorns bore the weight of the deep sea, strangling the spatial replacement.
But it was all meaningless.
The collision between Level 1 sealed objects was like several fully-powered pumps. Odrich's innate spirituality was drying up at a visible rate. Moreover, he had to divert half his power to suppress the Holy Grail in his hand, which could cause him to distort and lose control at any moment.
At the edge of the defense line, Ignatius was already coughing up large amounts of black blood. The backlash from the Church's ancient martyrdom secret art [The Sufferer] was more terrifying than he had anticipated. The mark left by Elba's [Blood Deprivation] law on his soul was eroding his core at a devastating speed.
"Can't hold out much longer."
Victor made a cold judgment from the shadows. In the demon's perception, the life fires of these two Church demigods were like guttering candles in a storm; they would be completely extinguished in at most two seconds.
The Grand Inquisitor knew this better than anyone.
Through the gaps in the thorns, Odrich stared at his former "allies" who were now attacking, then glanced sideways at his old friend who was bearing the Blood Cross for him. There was no fear in his eyes, only the dead calm of a fanatic, in the face of absolute despair, actively embracing the abyss.
His left hand suddenly let go of its support for the ground formation.
That blood-stained hand slowly rose, reaching into the void, as if reaching into the depths of his own soul. There, dozens of sacred laws locked away an absolute sacred relic, the highest taboo of the Church.
"For Dawn..."
Odrich's voice was as hoarse as sandpaper. His trembling hand clenched in the void, then, with utter cruelty, he pressed down hard on his own head!
"Thud"
No grand light show, only a single, soul-piercing, dull bell toll.
A rusty, blackened, barbed iron crown of thorns materialized on Odrich's head. As his hand pressed down, the several-centimeter-long, rusted iron spikes, without mercy, pierced his scalp, directly through his hard skull, and wedged into his cerebral cortex!
"AAAAARGH!!!"
That wasn't Odrich's voice. It was the despairing wail of a thousand martyrs, burned alive, flayed alive, all crying out from within a single shell.
The moment this [Blood Thorn Crown] tasted demigod blood, a deathly gray law, filled with ultimate sorrow, erupted outward like a tsunami!
[The Suffering of All Living].
Legend has it that during the early Second Epoch, the Dawn Church faced a catastrophic disaster. Countless saints were devoured by evil gods, unable to resist, unable to escape, only able to pray for death in their despair. One Grand Inquisitor, unable to bear seeing his comrades sink into madness, personally executed them one by one, forging this iron crown from their thorny crowns. Each iron spike was the final lament of a martyr.
From then on, this crown carried not divine grace, but the lives of thousands, ended by their own. Every time it appeared, it would drag the wearer into that endless "suffering" hell—stripping away all high-dimensional privileges, making even a god a mere mortal.
